Storm passes through Ventura
County, Santa Paula sees 1.01 inch
Published:  September 18, 2015

What was expected to be a scant rainfall brought about four times more rain to some areas of Ventura County late Monday evening including Santa Paula, which booked the second highest rate of rain.

The National Weather Service had said that Ventura County would see less than a quarter inch of rain from the system that moved into the county starting early Monday.

But by Tuesday morning, the remnants of Hurricane Linda rainfall brought amounts around much of the county more than double that, and in some areas more than three times that.

Santa Paula’s Dickenson Ranch area received 1.01 inches of rain according to the gauge checked by Janice Dickenson and reported on social media.

According to the Ventura County Watershed Protection District’s remote automated rain gauges, Santa Paula booked 1.01 inches of rain by 7 a.m. Tuesday morning.

The County Government Center in Ventura had recorded .86 inches, there was .50 inch recorded in Fillmore, .64 in Oxnard, .48 in Camarillo, .63 reported in Moorpark, .67 Simi Valley, 1.18 inches in Thousand Oaks, .41 recorded in Port Hueneme and .28 inch in Ojai.

No major damage or mudflows were reported in Ventura County, but Los Angeles County — which recorded even more rain, with some areas topping 2 inches — experienced flooding and the need for several swift water rescues.

The rain did not end the crushing humidity experienced in Santa Paula since last week but with Hurricane Linda moving out of the area it was expected the weather would return to normal by Thursday…but it won’t last as temperatures could shoot up again over the weekend bringing hot days — at least 90 degrees — to Ventura County.
