Cesario “Shorty” Huerta 

Cesario “Shorty” Huerta passed away early Friday, January 15, 2016 at Cedars- Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles at the age of 93.  Cesario was born October 23, 1922 and raised in Santa Paula. He attended Santa Paula High school along with his three sisters Julia, Beatrice and Virginia where he took up the sport of tennis, one of his passions.

Cesario entered active duty in the United States Navy where he attended gunnery and photography schools before serving on the USS Enterprise as a Photographer’s Mate 2nd Class.  During air raids, he photographed the attacking enemy planes from the sea and air.  While serving in the Pacific, he earned 7 battle stars, a Good Conduct Medal and the WWII Victory Medal.  After an honorable discharge in February of 1946, Cesario married his high school sweetheart, Florestella Ruth Hernandez. Cesario and Ruth celebrated 62 years of marriage prior to her passing in September of 2008.

A lifelong resident of Ventura County, Cesario made a living plastering, a trade handed down by his father, Cesario Sr.  Cesario loved to spend time outdoors whether it was fishing or just walking on the local pier, but his truest passion was serving others.

Cesario was a member of the Spanish Seventh Day Adventist Church of Santa Paula, and was always there when something needed to be done. He served his church admirably and also did mission work building and funding a church near his vacation home in Mexico.

Cesario is survived by his sister Virginia Hernandez of Pasadena; daughter, Marguerite Tharp (husband David) of Cleburne, TX; only son, Steve Huerta (wife Karen) of Ventura: Foster daughters, Yolanda Hernandez (husband Henry) of Camarillo and Gloria Anguiano of Riverside; 9 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren.   

Visitation will be from 5-8:30 on Thursday, January 21, 2016, Funeral services will be held Friday the 22nd at 2 p.m. at the Skillin-Carroll Mortuary in Santa Paula, 738 E. Santa Paula Street followed by burial at the Santa Paula Cemetery.
