See’s Candies: Life was sweet at First Presbyterian Church fundraiser

Life was sweet at First Presbyterian Church Fellowship Hall where See’s Candies were pulling in crowds looking for the famed chocolates.
But don’t despair if you missed the sale: candies will be available at the church office through Friday…that is, if they don’t sell out first!
On the second day of the Friday and Saturday sale Spring Bunnies Boxes and Molasses Chips were gone but there was plenty of boxes of assorted chocolates, dark or milk as well as boxes of mixed nuts and chews. There were also four flavors — count ‘em, four — of lollypops, chocolate Eggs and other goodies ready to take home.
Janice Dickenson organized the fundraiser “About a week and a half ago!” she admitted with a laugh.
“I remembered how the Chamber of Commerce used to sell See’s Candies and I decided to not only bring them back to raise money for the church but also to let people purchase See’s Candies in time for Easter.”
The sale was more successful than even Dickenson envisioned: “I ordered sixty Bunnies Boxes and they sold out!”
Molasses Chips were also snapped up but lollypops — four flavors of chocolate, vanilla, butterscotch and café latte — are still available as are boxes of assorted milk and dark chocolates, Scotchmallow and marshmallow covered in chocolate, and specialty decorated Easter Eggs are still available — but barely.
Dickenson said See’s Candies will continue to be sold “Unless we run out!” Tuesday through Friday in the church office, 121 Davis St., 9 a.m. to noon and 2 to 4 p.m.
Not only was it easy to sell the sweets but also to order them for the fundraiser, “Actually easier than I thought it would be,” said Dickenson who noted the ease and the speed of organizing the sale that See’s partners with for nonprofit organizations.
The sale was just in time for Easter: “People have come in and said ‘thank you for doing this’. One person bought six boxes of chocolates and told me ‘Now I don’t have to go to Ventura to buy See’s Candies!’ ”
