Marcos A. Hurtado

It is with a heavy heart that we announce the passing of our beloved husband, dad, brother and bolito, Marcos A. Hurtado. On March 16, 2016, at the age of 64.  Marcos was a long time resident of Santa Paula.  He was born on January 17, 1952 to Jose and Theodora Hurtado.  He attended school in Santa Paula where he met the love of his life Emily Vargas.  Marcos and Emily married in 1972 and soon after welcomed their first daughter Veronica Hurtado and 4 years later their daughter Toni Michelle Hurtado was born.

Mark enjoyed his work as a machine operator with Weyerhaeuser Paper Co. in Santa Paula for 42 years.  Upon retiring from Weyerhaeuser he enjoyed spending time camping, playing dominos, trips to Las Vegas and Avila Beach, restoring and cruising around Santa Paula in his 55 Chevy truck and waving to everyone he came across, listening to music, barbecuing, going to the swap meet, watching his favorite tv shows, helping family and friends with home improvement projects and most of all spending time with his beautiful granddaughter Gabby.  He enjoyed cheering Gabby on at sporting and fun events whether it was at softball, basketball or watching her compete in karate.

He also enjoyed giving back to his community of Santa Paula by being an ambassador for Santa Claus.  He was Santa for multiply schools in Ventura County, hospitals and many events for the Santa Paula Fire and Police Department and he was the official Santa Claus for the Santa Paula Christmas parade for many years.  He enjoyed putting on his red suit, ringing his bell and greeting children and spreading holiday cheer.  At the end of every holiday season he would make a substantial donation to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.

Marcos is survived by his beautiful wife of 44 years Emily, his daughters Veronica Hurtado and Toni Hurtado-Perce, son-in-law Paul Perce, granddaughter Gabrielle “Gabby” Perce, and brothers and sisters: Richard (Olivia) Martinez, Frank (Mary) Hurtado, Lupe (Kathy) Medrano, John Medrano, Paul Medrano, Gloria Moehring, Carmen Navarro and numerous nieces and nephews

Marcos is preceded in death by his mother Theodora Carrillo, mother-in-law Aurora Peralta and brothers and sister: Joe Hurtado, Arthur Martinez, Ignacio Medrano and Jenny Medrano, and his beloved pets Andy, Sam, Eddy and Phoebe.

We will truly miss his loving smile, his hearty laugh and his funny jokes.  This is not a final goodbye.  Goodbyes are not forever, goodbyes are not the end…they simply mean I’ll miss you until we meet again.

A recitation of the rosary will be held on Friday, April 1, 2016 at 7:00pm at Church of Angels, 600 E. Pleasant Street, Santa Paula.  A Mass in celebration of his life will be at St. Sebastian Church, 235 N. 9th Street, Santa Paula, CA on Saturday, April 2, 2016 at 11am.
