An area man found dead Friday evening behind a Santa Paula liquor store died of natural causes.

Skip Clemmons, 59, of Santa Paula, was living as a transient.

His body was found March 25 at 5:13 p.m. behind a liquor store on the 100 block of West Harvard Boulevard.

Two men that had an appointment to detail a vehicle saw Clemmons when they pulled into the parking lot and at first believed he was sleeping.

When the men were not able to wake Clemmons up they called authorities.

Santa Paula Police and Santa Paula Fire EMTs responded to the scene where Clemmons was found to be deceased.

Clemmons reportedly had recently suffered a stroke and he died of natural causes, according to the Ventura County Medical Examiner’s Office.

When the news of his death started to circulate, Clemmons’ friends posted about his good nature and helpful personality on Facebook.

He had battled alcohol for years and even when under the influence was easy going and displayed a sense of humor.
