Johnny Galvan

The last surviving son of Juan and Guadalupe Galvan completed his earthly journey on November 15, 2016 at the age of 80. Johnny Galvan was born January 2, 1936 in Santa Paula, California.  He grew up with his 11 brothers and sisters where summers were spent in the central valley harvesting walnuts and almonds.

Following in the footsteps of his father, Johnny began his life-long career at Limoneira.  He began working at Limoneira at the age of 18.  Aside from a partnership with his mother and siblings running Galvan Food Products, Johnny’s only job was at “the Ranch.”  At Limoneira, he quickly moved up the ranks and into a mechanics position where he completed his career.  It was at Limoneira that he met the love of his life, Esther.  Johnny and Esther were married in August of 1967 and began living at “the Ranch.”  Shortly after their union, Johnny and Esther welcomed two beautiful children:  Johnny, Jr., and Veronica.  To Johnny, family was everything.  His love for his wife, children, and grandchildren was second to none.  Annual visits to Bass Lake were memorial vacations for Johnny and his family.  Johnny was an avid camper and enjoyed planting and harvesting his bountiful garden.

Johnny served on the Board of Directors at the Limoneira Credit Union for over 20 years, where he also served as President.  He also served on the committee that recently created the Annual Labor Day Parade in Santa Paula.

Johnny is survived by his wife Esther, son Johnny, Jr. (Lori), daughter Veronica (Joe) Gaona, and father-in-law, Francisco Paz.  He also leaves behind his adoring grandchildren, Shalise, Bryanna, Victoria, Emmilee, Joseph, and Ashley.  In addition to his children and grandchildren, Johnny leaves behind his sisters Mary Martinez, Felicitas (Licha) Rodriguez, Irene Cardona, Stella Valdez (David), and Gloria Galvan-Jones (Brian); brothers-in-law Florencio Noriega, George (Rosa) Paz,  Victor (Maria) Paz, Fernando (Leticia) Paz, Javier (Rosa) Paz; sisters-law Catalina Paz, Leticia (Ralph) Gonzales, Rosa (Pedro) Calderon, and Gloria (Shaeen) Shanaenazar.  Johnny also leaves behind numerous nieces and nephews.

Johnny is predeceased in death by his parents, Juan and Guadalupe Galvan; sisters Jenny and Susie; brothers, Paul, Sixtos, Alex, and Henry; and brothers-in-law Mike Martinez, Pat Castro, Rigoberto Rodriguez, Max Cardona; Hector Paz; sister-in-law Frances Galvan; and mother-in-law Esther Paz.

Services for Johnny will be Thursday, December 1, 2016 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Ventura.  The Rosary will be prayed at 9:30 a.m. with Mass; beginning at 10:00 a.m. Burial will immediately follow at Santa Paula Pierce Brothers Cemetery.

The family would like to express their sincere gratitude to Dr. Pang, Dr. Kong, and the staff of Community Memorial Hospital CCU for their unwavering dedication and care for our father.  Their expertise and compassion will never be forgotten.

Arrangements are under the direction of Skillin-Carroll Mortuary 738 E. Santa Paula St., Santa Paula, CA (805)525-3391.
