Varsity boys embarrass Fillmore team on basketball court

The Cardinal varsity boys had little trouble in handling Fillmore on the basketball court last week. Santa Paula sent the Flashes packing with a 55-23 victory. The game started off slow, with neither team scoring for the first few minutes of play. The quarter ended with the Cards ahead 7-2. Things picked up in the second quarter as the Santa Paula offense got their engines going. By the half-time break the Cardinals were ahead 23-9. They increased their lead to 39-17 by the end of the third quarter.As usual, Chepe Lara led the Cardinal scoring with 26 points. Andrew Carrera had 9 points, two of those were 3-pointers. Eddie Marin hit for 8 points, including two 3-point shots and Ben Kolbeck had 4 points. Johnny Carrillo had 3 points.This was the last home game for the varsity for a while. Their next home contest is against Santa Clara on January 20 at 7:00 p.m.
