When you meet the Fillmore senior representing The Boys and Girls Club of Fillmore you will see why she was selected as not only Fillmore’s representative, but also the Boys and Girls Club of Santa Clara Valleys Youth of the Year. She has been a club member for six years. Moneraat Ayala ( Monse) to her friends has a radiant smile and has overcome many obstacles in her life. She has helped raise her four siblings and cousins, due to her families’ illness, her grandfathers’ blindness and gang-ridden neighborhood which one of her sisters was shot innocently in a drive by shooting. Yet she reaffirms the principles of the Boys and Girls Club philosophy. Her drive to succeed was her inspiration .She credits the Boys and Girls club staff with guiding her on the right path and giving her the tools to succeed.Her strong commitment to the Advid College prep program, Smart Girls, dealing with peer pressure and the mentoring program she has encouraged others to pursue higher education. She plans to attend CSUN, eventually obtaining a law degree and practice in her Fillmore community representing minorities and the disadvantaged.Monse will be competing with other Boys and Girls Club members for the youth of the year title in Ventura County. If she wins she will receive a $750.00 scholarships, runner-ups will receive $200.00 each from the County School Federal Credit Union. State wide winners will go on to compete regionally and meet President Bush in the Oval Office
