Mrs. Woods married Rev. Spann Woods, a Church of God ordained minister, on July 31, 1960 in Clovis, California. She was a faithful wife to Rev. Woods throughout their years of ministry. They pastored churches in Fresno, Los Angeles area, Lancaster, Rosamond, Indio, Riverside, Porterville, and were currently pastoring the Chapel of Praise in Santa Paula.Mrs. Woods attended school in Porterville, and while in Riverside she worked for the Riverside School District. She was active in the ladies ministries and music ministries of all the churches they pastored throughout the years here in California. She was a talented cake decorator and loved needle arts and gospel music. She was great at making people around her to feel loved and cared for as she had a great compassion for people. She loved her family and that family included those of the churches they pastored.She is survived by her husband of 40 years, Rev. Spann Woods of Santa Paula; sons, Allen Woods of Riverside, Randy Woods of Riverside and Craig Woods of Costa Mesa; her mother Marie Akin of Visalia/Reedley; brothers, Edward Akin of Reedley and Phil Akin of Tulare; sister Janice King of Visalia; four grandchildren; and a host of other family and friends.Services were held May 4th at Skillin-Carroll Mortuary, Santa Paula. Interment will be at Visalia Cemetery on Friday, May 5th at 11 a.m.Evelyn Goebel HarveyEvelyn Goebel Harvey, age 88, of Santa Paula, passed away on Monday, May 1, 2000.She was born in Derthord, North Dakota on July 2, 1911. She was a member of the Santa Paula Presbyterian Church and the Saticoy Country Club. In her younger days, she was an avid golfer and enjoyed traveling.She is survived by her sister, Jessie Delisle of Edmonton, Canada; brother Warren Goebel of Grande Praire, Canada; a son, Roger M. Harvey of Santa Paula; and five grandchildren. Evelyn was preceded in death by her husband, George W. Harvey.Graveside services will be held on Saturday, May 6 at 9:30 a.m. at Santa Paula Cemetery, with Pastor Chuck Laird of the First Presbyterian Church officiating.In lieu of flowers, the family has requested that contributions be made in her memory to the Santa Clara Valley Hospice or to the Santa Paula Memorial Hospital.Arrangements are under the direction of Pierce Brothers Stetler Mortuary, Santa Paula.Blasa Alamillo RiveraBlasa Alamillo Rivera, age 84, of Santa Paula, passed away in Santa Paula on May 1, 2000.Mrs. Rivera was born February 3, 1916 in La Junta, Colorado. She was a county resident for 36 years, and a homemaker for 70 years.She is survived by her daughters, Blanca Rivera of Santa Paula, Gloria Tarrango of Fillmore, Ofelia Robles of Santa Paula, Josephina Rivera of Santa Paula, Julia Rivera of Santa Paula, and Irene Loy of El Paso, Texas; sons, Salvador A. Rivera of Salinas, Jesus A. Rivera of Palmdale, and Felipe A. Rivera of Santa Paula; 39 grandchildren; 41 great grandchildren; eight great great grandchildren; three sisters; and two brothers.Mass will be held on Friday, May 5 at 1:30 p.m. at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church, Santa Paula. Kelli Jean McCarthy died May 1, 2000 suddenly and peacefully around family and friends.Kelli was born July 22, 1997 to her adoring parents, David and Donna McCarthy, and two loving sisters, Brittany Daniels and Hailey McCarthy, all of Santa Paula. She is also survived by maternal grandparents Phil and Sue Nerdrum of Paso Robles, and Darryl and Sue Daniels of Tehachapee; paternal grandparents Susan McCarthy of Santa Paula, and Daniel and Bunny McCarthy of Hacienda Heights; great-grandmother Eileen McCarthy of Apple Valley; great-grandparents Russell and Grace Mirfield of Florida; great-grandmother Thelma Petterson of Ventura; aunts, Ann Marie McCarthy of Ventura, Danette Baltazar of Piru, Hope Clingham, Deanna (and David) Silva of Vandenberg, and Debi and Darci Daniels of Tehachapee; uncles, Danny McCarthy of Santa Paula, Jarl (and Kim) Nerdrum of Elk Grove, and Jayson (and Sheri) Nerdrum of Santa Paula; much loved cousins, Megan, Hannah, Anthony and Michael, Jacob, Raymond and Chase; godparents Travis and Sylvia Ming; and extended Acevedo family.She touched many lives in her short time with us. Following 11 years of teaching in Pennsylvania she came to California in 1945 and went to work for Douglas Aircraft Company working on DC-3’s, 6’s and 7’s.Mary returned to teaching in 1947 as principal and teacher at Summit School in Upper Ojai Valley. She made many friends there, including Harold P. Harvey, whom she married in 1952. They had a happy marriage and spent 28 years together. Harold died in 1980.Mary was a member of P.O.E., a past member of the Ebell Club, and had worked as a volunteer with the Santa Paula Memorial Hospital Auxiliary.She is survived by her sister, Jane Rogers of Melbourne, Florida; three sons, Philip of Santa Paula, Jerry of Crescent City, and Brooke of Cambria Pines; two grandchildren, Chris Harvey of Fillmore and Dana Cooper of Santa Paula; and 5 3/4 great-grandchildren. Grandmary’s caring love and sense of humor will be missed by all.
