Santa Paulans earn scholarships

105 students were recognized by the Ventura College Foundation when they awarded $165,000 in scholarships at the Nineteenth Annual Student Awards Celebration on May 5 at the Four Points Sheraton Hotel.

105 students were recognized by the Ventura College Foundation when they awarded $165,000 in scholarships at the Nineteenth Annual Student Awards Celebration on May 5 at the Four Points Sheraton Hotel. Dr. John Woolley, vice president emeritus served as Master of Ceremonies, and Dr. Robin Calote, Ventura College President and Paul Iannaccone, executive director of the VC Foundation welcomed the awardees, contributors, families, faculty and staff in attendance at the event.Among the 105 were 10 from Santa Paula: Gerardo Aguilar, Brian Hernandez, Antonio Huante, Rebecca Kolbeck, Troi Reynolds, Lisa Valverde, Eric Villalon, Norma Villalon, Rosalina Villalon, and Eva Zamudio.Ventura College Foundation scholarships are designed to reward continuing and transferring Ventura College students for academic excellence. The awards are made possible by donations from faculty, staff, alumni, and friends of the College and generally range from $250 - $9,000. The donors set the selection criteria for all scholarships.
The Ventura College Foundation is the host of the Market Place - a farmer’s market and vendor site that operates each Saturday and Sunday on the Ventura College campus on Telegraph Road in Ventura. The Market Place is a link between the college and the community, and proceeds from this weekly event bring funds to the college and its students. Vendors pay a modest fee to display their items for sale. These funds are used for student scholarships, staff innovation grants, and many other projects undertaken by the Ventura College Foundation.
