Gilbert Ruiz Gilbert Ruiz, 79, of Santa Paula, went to be with the Lord on Friday, May 12, 2000 following a brief illness.Mr. Ruiz was born July 12, 1920 in San Juan de Guadalupe, Durango, Mexico. He came to the United States with his parents at the age of 4. He was a resident of Ventura County for 22 years, coming from Highland Park.Gilbert worked 45 years as a surgical nurse for Cedars of Lebanon Hospital, Saint Vincent’s Hospital, City View Hospital, and USC Medical Center in Los Angeles. He served in the Order of Saint John of God as a brother for three years at San Antonio Ranch in Chatsworth. Mr. Ruiz was a national member of the Association of Surgical Technologists. In his youth he served as an altar boy at Our Lady of Guadalupe Church.His hobbies were art painting, playing the piano and violin, and he enjoyed concert music very much. He also loved to garden.He will be dearly missed by his family and all who knew him, including his brothers, Joe Ruiz of Midway City and Ignacio “Nash” Ruiz of Santa Paula; sisters Maria E. “Pat” Ruiz and Mary Ruiz, both of Santa Paula; nephews, Arthur Michael Ruiz and Joseph Anthony Ruiz, both of Midway City; and niece Yolanda DiDomenico of Midway City. He was preceded in death by his parents, Jose and Enriqueta Ruiz.
Funeral Mass will be held on Wednesday, May 17, 11 a.m., at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church. Burial will follow at Santa Paula Cemetery.Donations may be made in Gilbert’s memory to Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church, 427 N. Oak St., Santa Paula, CA 93060.Arrangements are under the direction of Pierce Brothers Stetler Mortuary, Santa Paula.
