It is one of the paintings in the new exhibition, “Homes & Gardens of Santa Paula,” opening at the City of Santa Paula’s California Oil Museum on Sunday, August 6, 2006. This Santa Paula Society of the Arts exhibit will feature a reception and opening program at 1:30 PM by Judy Klement.

The Santa Paula Society of the Arts will open the new exhibition, “Homes & Gardens of Santa Paula,” at the City of Santa Paula’s California Oil Museum, Sunday, August 6 (1001 E. Main St., Santa Paula, 805-933-0076, Adults $4, Seniors $3, Residents $2, Children $1). The opening reception runs from 1-3 PM and the program will begin at 1:30 PM. The program’s featured speaker is Judy Klement, fine art teacher and painter. She will speak about the significance of the locales depicted in the exhibition and the various styles of artwork represented. Refreshments will be served and the public is invited. The Museum is operated by the Santa Paula Community Services Department. Many of Santa Paula’s historic homes are architectural treasures, encompassing multiple eras of noted architectural design. They range in style from Victorian and Queen Anne to Craftsman and Eastlake. Many are registered historic landmarks. All registered sites in Santa Paula can be viewed at DiscoverSantaPaula.com by clicking on “Places to See.”“It will be fascinating to see how each artist portrays Santa Paula homes and gardens in their own personal style,” said Virginia Gunderson, president of the Santa Paula Society of the Arts. Reflecting on the theme of the exhibit, Museum Curator Jeanne Orcutt commented, “Santa Paula has inspired many artists through the years, from Jessie Arms and Cornelis Botke to contemporary artists like Gail Pidduck and Judy Klement. This kind of exhibition always attracts enthusiastic contributors and viewers.” Ms. Orcutt is overseeing the production and installation of the exhibition. The exhibit will feature work by Pam Shelley, Dorothy Orr, Judith Klement, Lynda Gruber, Cynthia Davis, Gerry Berry, George Appel, Eugene Marzec, Virginia Gunderson, Judy Dressler, Joan Monroe, and Marlaina Herman.
This is one of seven community exhibits presented by local organizations each year at the Museum.
