Joy Appel Dear friend Joy Smith Clark Appel passed away June 25, 2006 after a long illness. Joy was born November 24, 1924 in Boulder City, Australia. She had a sister, Billie, a brother, Jack, and two other siblings.She first married Richard Clark and went to live with his family in New Hampshire as a war bride. They had a son, Ricky. After Richard died, Joy came out to visit a cousin in California. She met and then married John Appel in 1968. They first lived in Ventura, and then moved to Santa Paula. Joy belonged to the Down Under (Australia) Club for many years.In 1977, Joy and John were living in Santa Paula when Joy joined the Santa Paula Welcome Wagon/Friendship Club. Joy was a very active member, serving as vice president three years, Sunshine chairman two years, and hostess for meetings many many times until 2003. Joy and John loved to attend music concerts, go on cruises, and give dinner parties with their friends in Santa Paula.Joy was very artistic. In her home she had a number of her paintings done in oil, acrylic and watercolor. She also worked with ceramics. Joy and John were very devoted to their Siamese cats.
Joy’s husband John preceded her in death May 3, 2001. She is survived by her son Ricky and his family of three children and three grandchildren.Prearrangements were made with the Neptune Society of Santa Barbara. Both Joy and John’s ashes were sent to the family in New Hampshire for interment.
