The Ventura County Astronomical Society (VCAS) will hold it’s monthly membership meeting on Friday, September 21st at 7:30 PM in the Multipurpose Room at the Mesa Union School.
The speaker for that evening will be Dr. Stan Metchev, Post-doctoral Fellow at the University of California, Los Angeles. Dr Metchev will be speaking on the subject “From Stars to Planets”. This presentation will showcase data collected by astronomers over the past two decades from nearby stars that are much younger than the Sun and that appear to be currently undergoing active planet formation. Dr. Metchev will showcase some of the newest astronomical data from the Keck and the VLT telescopes, and from the Hubble and the Spitzer space telescopes that have provided support for the current hypotheses on planetary system evolution. This presentation brings to our county residents a unique opportunity to learn more of the science and unique theories of planet formation. The public is invited to share in this educational and enjoyable evening.
