In the United States, breast cancer is the most common non-skin cancer and second leading cause of cancer-related death in women. One in eight women will be diagnosed with the disease.The Breast Center at Community Memorial Hospital will hold a symposium focusing on the latest detection and treatment options of breast cancer at the Ventura Beach Marriott, 2055 Harbor Blvd., on Saturday, Oct. 20. The symposium will run from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m., with registration beginning at 7:30 a.m. Admission is free, and a light continental breakfast and lunch is included.A team of board certified oncologists, radiologists, surgeons and therapists from the Community Memorial Health System will be on hand to provide valuable information and answer all questions. They include:* Thomas Fogel, M.D., of Cabrillo Radiation Oncology Medical Center;* Priscilla Wong, M.D., radiologist at The Breast Center;* Complementary/integrative therapists Ellen Fogel, MSW, and Janet Hranicky, Ph.D.;
* Irwin Grossman, M.D., of Grossman Imaging Centers;* Surgeons Samuel Bern, M.D., and James Woodburn III, M.D.;* Rosemary McIntyre, M.D., and Ann Kelley, M.D., of Ventura County Hematology/Oncology.Women who have been diagnosed with, or are being treated for breast cancer; women with a family history of the disease; and women who have had an irregular mammogram are encouraged to attend.
