And especially this year: “I received an email from Santa- it’s nice to know he into computer technology - that he was concerned about not seeing people in Santa Paula,” said City Manager Wally Bobkiewicz.“I reassured Santa that we are all very happy to see him come through and assured him I would do what was needed because we love Santa...he sent me back an email and said he’d be here Monday night.”Bobkiewicz said that although he had seen Santa’s fly-over “When I was in high school in Camarillo, he and I only became reacquainted when I contacted him three years ago,” about including Santa Paula on his fly-over itinerary.“Obviously, I had given him lists when I was child but we had been out of touch for a while,” and after Santa’s initial Santa Paula fly-over he told Bobkiewicz that “this was the first place he got a sliced orange along with milk and cookies. Now, Santa Paula is the first place he thinks of all...over the world it’s cookies and milk, cookies and milk. He comes here for his sliced oranges and he’s quite happy with that.”In fact, Santa arrives here early because “he’s become quite the Santa Paula aficionado...I sent him a Santa Paula ornament for Mrs. Claus to put on their Christmas tree.”As fond as Santa is of Santa Paula that affection must be returned and Bobkiewicz said that on Christmas Eve to “Look for him in the sky between the riverbed and Main Street. He’s got a busy calendar and he’s not lingering, he goes pretty fast. He’s a busy guy and we don’t want him to be late in other parts of the world...we can’t be too selfish with Santa Paula, we have to share Santa with the rest of the world. He’s very excited to come here but we need to get out and show him our support.”
