Manuel R. Estrada Manuel R. “Rola” Estrada, age 77, of Santa Paula, passed away February 17, 2008 following an extended illness. He was born May 8, 1930 in Benavides, Texas, and was a Ventura County resident for 44 years, coming from Texas.Mr. Estrada worked as a foreman for Santa Paula Citrus from 1964 until the packinghouse burned. He then worked for Buenaventura Lemon, Oscar Labor Service and Molina Labor Service, retiring in 1988.He loved playing poker and conquian with his buddy Lusilo Lara “Ojitos” on weekends. He enjoyed scratching off Lotto tickets, and coloring Easter eggs.He was preceded in death by his wife, Maria Estela Estrada, his parents, Leandro Sr. and Maria Estrada, brother Ignacio and sister Virginia Estrada, and his in-laws, Nicolas and Maria Villarreal.He is survived by his son, Manuel Estrada Jr. (fiancée Evelyn) and daughter, Maria (husband David) Cavazos Sr., all of Texas; daughter Yolanda (husband Miguel) Rincón, and close friend – considered a daughter – Patricia (husband Robert) Alamillo, all of Santa Paula; brothers Leandro Jr. (wife Hilda) Estrada, Candelario (wife Tules) Estrada, and Hector Estrada, and sisters Margarita Cardona, Maria Ester Ramirez, Ernestina Estrada, and Dominga Rodriguez, all of Texas; sister Tomasita (husband Jesus) Vasquez of Turlock, CA; and sisters-in-law Alicia (husband Paul) Peña and Maria Cantu of Texas. Also surviving him are grandchildren Ana (Rogelio), Irene (Sonny), Rachael (Jimmy), Celestina (Alan), Leanna (Guadalupe), David Jr. (Andrea) and Alicia (Danny), all of Texas; and Daniela (Brook), Janice (Robert), Ryan, Alyia and Mia, all of Santa Paula; 19 great-grandchildren; and numerous aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.Mr. Estrada was a member of El Santo Nombre at Guadalupe Church. He served as a member of the Board of Directors at Casa del Mexicano from 1980 to 1984.Special thanks to Santa Paula Hospital and Dr. Jeffrey Tubbs, his “T.J. Hippie” for their care and support.Visitation will be on Friday, February 22, from 4 to 5 p.m. for family and from 5 to 6 p.m. for friends, at Funeraria del ángel Stetler Mortuary, 128 S. 8th St., with rosary at 7 p.m. Mass will be at 11 a.m. on Saturday, February 23 at Our Lady of Guadalupe Church, with Father Charles officiating.Arrangements are under the direction of Funeraria del ángel Stetler Mortuary, 128 S. 8th St., 525-5595.Helen Luque UribeHelen Luque Uribe passed away Tuesday, February 19, 2008, with her family at her bedside. She was born March 13, 1921 to Martin and Maria Luque.Helen enjoyed going to Las Vegas with her sister Connie, and watching Dodger games.She was preceded in death by her mother, father, four brothers and six sisters.Helen is survived by her husband Miguel Uribe, daughter Linda Uribe, daughter and son-in-law Sylvia and Samuel Alvarez, grandson Sam Alvarez, granddaughter Michelle Alvarez, great-granddaughters Justine, Janae and Isabel Alvarez, sister Sara Ruiz, and numerous nieces and nephews.Visitation was scheduled from 4 to 8 p.m. on Tuesday, February 26, with recitation of rosary at 7 p.m. at Funeraria del ángel Stetler Mortuary in Santa Paula. The funeral mass will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday, February 27 at Our Lady of Guadalupe Church on Oak Street in Santa Paula. Amelia V. NunezAmelia V. Nunez, 90, of Santa Paula, passed away from a short two and a half week illness on February 20, 2008 in Santa Paula. Amelia was born January 7, 1918 in Durango, Mexico.She was a Ventura County resident for 50 years, after moving here from the San Fernando Valley. She worked as a waitress and drugstore clerk.Amelia is preceded in death by grandson Mark Weight, sons Robert E. Weight and David J. Weight, sisters Celia V. Jimenez-Cruz, Adeline Chaparro-Jasso and Esther Hernandez, and brother Louie Escobosa.She is survived by her husband, Jesus R. Nunez of Santa Paula, sister Linda Grimes of Santa Paula, son Orville H. Weight of North Hollywood, daughter Claudette M. Mead of N. Potomac, Maryland, stepsons Gabriel Nunez of Santa Paula and Fernando Nunez of Mexico, stepdaughters Martha Casteneda of Bakersfield and Garciela Nunez of Mexico, 12 grandchildren, three step-grandchildren, 21 great-grandchildren, and two great great grandchildren.Visitation was scheduled from 5 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, February 26 with the rosary recited at 6 p.m. at Skillin Carroll Chapel. Mass will be on Wednesday, February 27 at 12 noon at St. Sebastian Church in Santa Paula, with burial to follow at Pierce Brothers Santa Paula Cemetery.In memory of Amelia, donations may be made in her honor to St. Jude Shrine, 512 W. De Anda, 85, of Santa Paula, passed away February 20, 2008, in Woodland Hills, after a brief illness.He was born on September 21, 1922, in San Pedro, California and had been a county resident most of his life until moving in with daughter and son-in-law.Miguel was preseded in death by his loving wife Consuelo G. De Anda.He is survived by his daughter Connie Levinson of Woodland Hills (Husband Greg and son Kyle), son Mike De Anda of Lancaster (daughter Elizabeth), sisters Lupe Chacon, Molly Fernandez, and brother Tony De Anda all of Santa Paula.Rosary will be recited at 7:00 PM, Thursday, February 28, 2008 at the Skillin Carroll Mortuary Chapel in Santa Paula. Mass will be celebrated at 10:00 AM Friday, February 29, 2008 at Our Lady of Guadalupe Church in Santa Paula.
