Lady Cardinal JV Softball defeats Channel Islands 18-3

The JV softball team hosted Channel Islands on Monday, March 24, and won 18-3. The 10-run Mercy Rule ended the game after four and a half innings. The Lady Cards took an early lead over Channel Islands, scoring 10 runs in the first inning and seven runs in the second. Kathleen Hernandez pitched for the Cards, giving up only five singles.Haydee Velazquez led the Cardinal hitters with 2 for 3. Kassie Espinoza hit 1 for 3, scoring three runs with three RBIs, and had a 2-RBI double in the first inning. Diana Ochoa was 1 for 3 with 4 RBIs, including a big 3-run home run in the first inning. Joleen Zuniga was 1 for 3 with a 2-RBI single in the second. Angie Vasquez was 1 for 3 with a 2-RBI double in the first, and Hailey McCarthy was 1 for 2 and scored 3 runs. The solid defense had an errorless game.
The JVs evened their season record at 2-2.
