Richard Robert Lopez Richard Robert Lopez, age 65, of Fillmore, passed away October 5, 2000 in Fillmore. He was born November 13, 1934 in Santa Paula, and was a lifelong county resident.Mr. Lopez worked as a fork lift operator for General Motors in Van Nuys for 25 years. He also served in the U.S. Army. He loved watching boxing and wrestling, and he loved motorcycles.He is survived by his wife, Helen Lopez of Fillmore; daughters, Vera Li Lopez of Fillmore and Felina Koontz of Palmdale; son Eric David Lopez of New York; seven grandchildren; sisters, Virginia Guevarra of Panorama City and Stella Solis of Santa Paula; and brothers, David Lopez of Torrance and Ronnie Lopez of Santa Paula.Graveside services were held October 10 at Santa Paula Cemetery.Arrangements under the direction of Skillin-Carroll Mortuary, Santa Paula.Linda Diane ElkLinda “Diane” Elk, age 58, passed away on August 16, 2000 in Lake Placid, Florida.Diane (Anlauf) Elk was born on August 18, 1941. She was raised on the Anlauf orange ranch above Steckel Park in Santa Paula, and graduated from Santa Paula High School in 1959. She was a Past Worthy Matron in Eastern Star.For the past 14 years, she lived in Lake Placid, Florida, where she had a successful sewing business specializing in Western clothes. One of her favorite pastimes was line dancing with the “Country Swingers” line dance club.She is survived by her husband, Bill Elk of Florida; daughter, son-in-law and grandchildren, Roxanne, Gary, Dillon and Krista Case of Simi Valley; and nephew Gerald Hendrick and family in Quincy.She had many friends and and extended family who will remember how caring and strong she was in dealing with cancer that she had for the last nine years. She was an inspiration to many new cancer patients, and invited to speak at seminars because of her positive attitude. She will be greatly missed.There will be a service held at Santa Paula Cemetery on Saturday, October 14 at 11 a.m.Aurelia A. SalasAurelia A. Salas, age 97, of Santa Paula, passed away on Friday, October 6, 2000 after a brief illness.Mrs. Salas was born on June 16, 1903 in Jalisco, Mexico. She worked as a packer for the Saticoy Lemon Association for 15 years, and was a 61 year county resident.
Survivors include two granddaughters, Rosalind Avila of Santa Paula and Leticia Avila of Tehachapi; a nephew, Jesus and his wife Herminia Alonzo; six step grandsons, Genaro Salas, Arturo Salas, Jose Salas, Enrique Salas, Pete Salas and Antonio Salas; one step granddaughter, Lupe Salas; and numerous nieces and nephews.She was preceded in death by her husband, Pedro Salas, and a daughter, Consuelo S. Avila.Mass will be held on Wednesday, October 11 at 10 a.m. at Our Lady of Guadalupe Church in Santa Paula. Burial will follow at Santa Paula Cemetery.Arrangements are under the direction of Pierce Brothers Stetler Mortuary, Santa Paula.Margaret Allene PruittMargaret Allene Pruitt, age 87, of Santa Paula, passed away Saturday morning, October 7, 2000 after a lengthy illness.She was born on September 15, 1913 in Edinberg, Illinois, and was a long time county resident. She was an active member of the First United Methodist Church in Santa Paula, where her husband Robert had been the minister.Mrs. Pruitt graduated from La Sierra College in 1955. From 1956 to 1963 she was a substitute schoolteacher in Ventura County. She retired from teaching to help raise three of her grandchildren.She is survived by her daughter, Mary Jo Day (husband, Ed) of Las Vegas, Nevada; granddaughter and grandson Diann Thomas and Paul Thomas of Santa Paula; grandson Phillip Thomas (wife, Erica) of Nevada, Missouri; granddaughter Stephine Pruitt-Klippel (husband, Jim) of Ventura; three great grandsons; and two great granddaughters.She was preceded in death by her husband Robert in 1986, and her only son, Larry, in 1999.Burial will be private. A memorial service will be held on Thursday, October 12 at 2 p.m. at the First United Methodist Church in Santa Paula with the Reverend Mardy Olivas officiating.In lieu of flowers, please make donations to the First United Methodist Church of Santa Paula or to the Alzheimer’s Association of Ventura County, 2630 Saddle Ave., Oxnard.Arrangements are under the direction of Pierce Brothers Stetler Mortuary, Santa Paula.
