Also included in this evening’s lineup are Los Perros (Xavier Montes, Carlos Moraza and Ramon Lopez), and The Morazas (various members of the Moraza family of Santa Paula and Ventura). These two groups were performing during the same period as The Homeboys, and often at the same events, when one group would play for the reception and the other for the dance. Also performing will be Xavier’s mentees, Remember to Forget, a contemporary Reggae band. There is no admission to the event, and food and beverages may be purchased at the restaurant. Folks are encouraged to bring your own chairs and perhaps an umbrella or hats during the day. For more information about the music, call Xavier Montes at 525-8961, or email him at BigX93061@aol.com.

70’s Country band “The Homeboys” return to Santa Paula
June 04, 2008
Santa Paula News
This nine-member band was one of the hottest and most sought after dance bands in Ventura County from 1974 to 1978. They will be performing at The Glen Tavern Inn, 134 N. Mill St. on June 14 from 3 p.m. to 10 p.m. outside in front of the Ironhorse Restaurant.
In the 70s The Homeboys played college campuses, weddings, parties, baptisms and other fun social events, providing Latin Jazz, Top 10 and Mexican corridos, among other music. Members of The Homeboys include Xavier “X” Montes, Billy Ramirez, Tony Ontiveros, Georgie Castañeda, Maurilio Gonzales, Robert Torres, Teddy Hurtado, Art “Puggy” Porras, and David Tovar. All except one were from Santa Paula, and that one, David Tovar, was from Fillmore. The Santa Paulans in the group knew each other since childhood, with most attending area schools and graduating from Santa Paula High. After their breakup in 1978, several band members went on to play with other groups, such as Canela; others went on to college, marriage and careers, eventually moving to other parts of the state. This is the first time in 30 years that The Homeboys will reunite for what promises to be a memorable evening of music, old friends, dancing, and just plain going back to the 70s.Organizer of this reunion, Xavier “X” Montes (as he was known in those days before he became “Big X”), laughingly says, “It will be interesting to see pictures of the band back then when some of us had hair!”
