Betty Doris Everly Betty Doris Everly, 80, of Santa Paula, passed away on Monday, October 6, 2008. She was born on August 30, 1928 in Polk County, MO, and was a resident of Ventura County for 65 years.Betty worked in nursing and private duty care. She was a great homemaker, and loved to do embroidery and enjoyed cooking. She loved going to church, and her passion in life was taking care of her family.She was preceded in death by her daughter, Joann Michaud, and granddaughters Suzanne Michaud Settlemire and Crystal Utley.She is survived by her husband of 48 years, Bernell Everly; sons Jesse Robinson, Robert Robinson (wife Carol), and Terry Utley (wife Charlotte); son-in-law Norm Michaud; daughters Susan Terrell (and her favorite son-in-law Ernie Terrell), and Anna Taylor (Jose Rasas); her cousin Geneva and her son Michael Durham; grandchildren Robin Robinson, Jason Robinson, Karina Straub, Jesse Feller, Bobby Robinson, Tracy Utley, Joanna Utley, Terry Utley, Tyler Utley, Donelle Corona, Ernie Terrell Jr., Holly Terrell, Donny Foster and Julie Foster; and 13 great-grandchildren, Asley Robinson, Robert Robinson, James Robinson, Andrea Robinson, Kayla Riley, Brittany Riley, Gerald Riley, Mackenzie Corona, Angelique Corona, Allan Settlemire, Cody Nali, Nolan McKeen, and Wade Foutch.There will be a graveside service at Pierce Brothers Santa Paula Cemetery on Saturday, October 11 at 1 p.m., with Pastor Bob Walpole officiating.Arrangements are under the direction of Funeraria del ángel Stetler Mortuary, 128 S. 8th St., Santa Paula, 525-5595.Leonard D. LuttsLeonard Dewayne Lutts, age 84, passed away Thursday, October 2, 2008 after suffering a stroke last June. Leonard was a longtime Santa Paula resident, over 55 years. He and his family moved to Santa Paula from Pauls Valley, Oklahoma in the 1940s.He served in the Army during World War II, driving trucks and Sherman tanks in the Battle of the Bulge. He received a Purple Heart, Bronze Star, and several other commendations for his service.Upon being honorably discharged from the Army, he settled in Santa Paula, finding work in the local oil fields. His brothers taught him how to lay brick and block. Eventually he turned those skills into a profession. Many buildings, retaining walls, patios, etc. around Ventura County were built by Len, Hub, Charlie and Jones.Leonard met and married the love of his life, Sammie Lee Clampitt. They were married 50 years before she passed away three years ago.
The family wishes to express heartfelt thanks to those who cared for Leonard as his health declined, especially Hortensia Carrier, daily caregiver, good friend Roy Alsup, nephew Louis Morgan and, last but not least, the Reeder family, neighbors.Leonard is survived by his stepdaughter, Karen Chambers of Fresno; son-in-law Paul Chambers; two grandchildren, Nicole (husband David) Cotton of Fresno and Dena (husband Ken) Harris of El Cajon; four great-grandchildren, Tyler Cotton, Lauren Cotton, Nathaniel Harris and Noah Harris; and many other nieces and nephews.Graveside services will be held Wednesday, October 15 at 11:30 a.m. at the Santa Paula Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations can be sent to the local VFW Post 2043, c/o Richard Ruiz, 541 N. 14th St., Santa Paula, CA 93060.Arrangements are under the direction of Skillin Carroll Mortuary, 525-3391.Harold Owen HobsonHarold Owen Hobson, 78, of Fillmore, passed away on September 17, 2008. He was born January 7, 1930 in Fillmore and attended Santa Paula schools, including Santa Paula High School, graduating in 1948. He attended Cal Poly Pomona, Ventura Junior College, and East Los Angeles College. He was a forward observer with the Army’s 40th Division during the Korean War.Harold was preceded in death by his parents, Lee and Wilma Hobson. He is survived by his sons, Chris (wife Maxine of San Diego), Jeffrey (wife Tammy) of Fillmore, and Scott of Fillmore; daughter Linda Hodgson (husband Welles) of Hawaii; and grandchildren Alice and Derek Hobson of Brentwood, CA and Evan Hobson of Fillmore.Harold enjoyed farming citrus, golfing, and fishing throughout the Pacific Northwest. In his later years he returned to farming locally, and spent time with his family.Private services will be held at a later date.
