The final game of the regular season is at home Friday against Grace Brethren. The varsity contest starts at 7:30 p.m. Pairings for the CIF playoffs will be announced Sunday, November 16. We’ll have the results of the draw next Wednesday.

Undisputed Frontier League title just one game away

The Cardinal varsity started off strong Friday in their 26-7 victory over Malibu, leaving Santa Paula with the possibility of an undefeated season and a Frontier League Championship.
Santa Paula was in charge from the first kickoff as Zach McClain ran the ball over 50 yards to the 36-yard line. Anthony Murillo got the ball to the Malibu 7 and moments later Mike Vera scored the first Santa Paula touchdown off a pass from quarterback Max Moreno. The point after kick by Gilbert Mora was good, leaving the Cards in the lead 7-0. Murillo scored a TD for the Cards with two minutes left in the quarter.Murillo scored again late in the second quarter, giving Santa Paula a 20-0 edge. With just a short time left in the quarter Malibu scored and the point after kick put the score at 20-7.The third quarter was a draw, with no score. With 9:19 left in the fourth quarter McClain caught a 14-yard pass for a TD. The PAT pass was unsuccessful. This was last TD of the game.Gusty winds made things difficult at times during the game. Kicking into the wind proved to be a problem for both teams.
