Maria L. Lugo Maria L. Lugo, 88, was born on February 21, 1921 in Harlingen, Texas. She passed away on March 5, 2009 in Ventura.Maria was the daughter of Luis and Isaura Ceja. She was a resident of Ventura County for over 40 years.In her younger years, she loved gardening, and taking care of her birds. She loved collecting little knickknacks for her house, and displayed them all in her living room; she also enjoyed crocheting and cooking. She was a wonderful grandmother, and with some of her grandkids she took the role on as “mother.” She loved going to Chumash Casino to pass the time, “distress,” she would say. She will be profoundly missed.Maria is survived by her loving husband Rodolfo Lugo; daughters and sons, Maria Guadalupe Lugo Garcia, Rosalva Lugo Flores, Rodolfo Lugo, Angelica Lugo, Gerardo Lugo, Lilia Lugo Tobias, Jose Luis Lugo, and Maria del Carmen Lugo Gonzalez; brothers, Moises Parra, Melchor Parra and Felix Parra; 25 grandchildren, 31 great-grandchildren and seven great-great grandchildren.Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated on Tuesday, March 10 at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church in Santa Paula. Interment followed at Santa Clara Cemetery in Oxnard.Funeral arrangements were under the direction of the family owned and operated Garcia Mortuary, 629 S. “A” Street, Oxnard. For further information, please call (805) 486-9148.Bud Edward WhiteBud E. White passed away peacefully on February 11, 2009 in Santa Paula. Devotedly by his side throughout his illness were his son and daughter, Kurt and Wendi White.Bud was a tender, loving and caring man who will truly be missed by his family and friends and all those who knew him. In Bud’s final weeks of life, he stated he had lived a good life and was thankful he had lived long enough to see his grandchildren, Michael and Emma, be born; being able to watch them grow meant the world to him.His only final request was to be able to go home and be with his beloved cat, Baby, who had been his constant and loving companion for nearly 18 years. He and Baby both made their transition together on February 11th.Bud was born on March 20, 1944 in Merced, California, and was a lifelong resident of Santa Paula. He spent some of his early childhood years on a ranch in Merced with Grandpa and Grandma Morrison, a sweet elderly couple who assisted in raising Bud as a toddler while his father was away in the Army Air Force in India.Bud graduated from Santa Paula High School in 1962, and married his high school sweetheart, Christine Wells, in 1964. Bud and Christine had two children, Kurt and Wendi White. He worked as a supervisor for Weyerhaeuser for over 20 years, and later went on to work at Caltrans for a number of years.Bud began flying at the age of 23 with his father-in-law Rex Wells of Wells Aircraft, and earned his pilot’s license in 1970. Mildred and Rex Wells were very much loved by Bud, and his admiration and respect for them could not be surpassed.Bud enjoyed riding motorcycles, flying, shooting, and being in the great outdoors. In Bud’s retirement years, he enjoyed spending time with his family and being home with his daughter Wendi and grandson Michael. He was an incredibly funny man with a colorful personality and sense of humor that brought uncontrollable laughter to all his family and friends.Bud is preceded in death by his mother, Ethel Elizabeth Anderson (1961) and father Clarence (Bud) White (1985). Bud is survived by his son and daughter-in-law Kurt and Beth White and granddaughter Emma of Ventura; daughter Wendi White and grandson Michael of Santa Paula; sister Melissa White of Ojai; brother Michael del Dosso of Ventura; and two brothers in Merced, Peter and Michael Vaughn.Kurt and Wendi would like to thank Dr. Noah of Santa Paula Hospital for the kindness and compassion he exhibited toward their father, and his efforts in trying to save Bud’s life. Words cannot express the respect and gratitude felt toward Dr. Noah.In honor of Bud’s 65th birthday, his family would like to hold a Celebration of Life, which will take place at Santa Paula Airport, a place of great meaning and significance to Bud. Robert Glen LewisRobert Glen Lewis passed on to join his late wife, Ruth, early Wednesday morning, March 4, 2009. ‘Bob’ passed away on his 88th birthday. He was the last survivor of eight children born to Melvin Emery Lewis and Mary Adeline De Austin in Birnamwood, Wisconsin. He was a Ventura County resident for 47 years.Bob and his wife Ruth met at a dance in Los Angeles, where she told him she would be happy to teach him how to dance. After a year of courtship they danced happily through 65 years of marriage, before her death in 2006.During WWII, Bob helped the war effort working at Lockheed Aircraft on the P38 Lightning. He also worked on the first jet off the ‘Skunk Works’ line, the SP-80 Shooting Star.When their son, Glen was a year old they moved back to Lee Vining, Ruth’s hometown in the Sierras, to raise him. Bob worked for Harry Blaver at the Lee Vining Market for 17 years. While living there Bob joined the Volunteer Fire Department, where he became Fire Chief for many years. He updated their equipment by getting their first resuscitator.Bob also started the long time tradition of the 4th of July fireworks display down by Mono Lake. He dearly loved fishing all the streams and lakes in the High Sierras. If the fish weren’t biting for anyone else, they were biting for him! He also enjoyed the hunting seasons, and hiking all through the backcountry. He had a million stories about life in the mountains and all the adventures and mischief he and his friends got into.He was a lifetime member of the Elks of Bishop, CA.In 1962 the family moved to Santa Paula, and Bob went to work for Vons in Simi Valley as manager of the Liquor Department while waiting for the new Vons to open in Santa Paula. He later worked for the Ventura Vons, and finally retired as manager of the Liquor Department at the Vons in Montecito. He worked for Vons for 22 years, retiring in 1984.Bob was never one to sit in a rocking chair and relax. His retirement years brought him much enjoyment. He enjoyed deep-sea fishing, and golfed twice a week with his buddies.He also volunteered with Food Share of Ventura County, a local charity. He gave over 25 years of service to them, gleaning the fields and orchards of Ventura County. In the last few years he helped in the warehouse with the receiving and distribution of all donations, to help feed the needy.He is predeceased by his wife of 65 years, Ruth, and brothers and sisters Jack, Vivian, Mel, Ted, Don, Jean, and Mary Jane.He is survived by his loving family: son Glen and daughter-in-law Cheryl Lewis, granddaughter Lisa Lewis, grandson and his wife Scott and Dani Lewis, beloved great-granddaughters Mychaela, Emma and Angelique Lewis, sisters-in law Hilda Treadwell and Raymonde Lewis, and numerous nieces and nephews.Graveside services will be held on Friday, March 13, 2009 at 2 pm at the Santa Paula Cemetery, 380 Cemetery Rd., Santa Paula.In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Food Share, Santa Paula Hospice or your favorite charity in Bob’s name.Bob was a wonderful, loving, giving person, always helping those in need. He never met a stranger, only new friends. He will be greatly missed by all those who knew and loved him.Bob has been entrusted into the care of Santa Clara Mortuary, Oxnard.
