Esther Paz Esther M. Paz, age 83, of Santa Paula, died Monday, September 13, 1999. Esther was born on July 2, 1916 in Tlazazalca, Michoacan, Mexico.She is survived by her husband, Francisco Paz; her children, Jorge (Rosa) of Santa Paula, Esther (Johnny) of Santa Paula, Fernando (Leticia) of Fillmore, Javier (Rosa) of Escondido, Rosa (Pedro) of Colorado, Victor (Maria) of Escondido, Leticia (Rafael) of San Diego, and Gloria (Shahryar) of Port Hueneme; 20 grandchildren, Sergio, Cesar, Jorge, Jr., Johnny, Jr., Veronica, Rene, Sonia, Jessica, Pedro, Jr., Alejandra, Diego, Lucia, Andrea, Santiago, Andres, David, Adriana, Omar, Monica, and Shaheen; 8 great-grandchildren, 7 brothers and 3 sisters.A Rosary were held on Wednesday, September 15, 1999 at 7:00 p.m. at Our Lady of Guadalupe Church in Santa Paula. A funeral mass was celebrated on Thursday, at 11:30 a.m. also at Our Lady of Guadalupe Church. Internment was at Pierce Brothers Santa Paula Cemetery. Arrangements were under the direction of Pierce Brothers Stetler Mortuary, Santa Paula.Edith V. ClowEdith V. Clow was born February 22, 1905 to Charles Allen and Fannie Gertrude Owens in Blair, Oklahoma. She graduated from Hollister High School and worked as a telephone operator for a local company there before eventually coming to California.Residing and spending most of her years in Santa Paula where her youngest sister has settled, Edith married Kenneth Clow, worked at the Mupu Grill and attended the Southern Baptist Church there. Upon her husband’s retirement, the couple moved to the Cascade Mobilehome Park in Saticoy.Following her husband and sister’s passing sometime ago, Edith went to live near her sister Alma Charlene Hinds in Rexburg, Idaho. Her life concluded at 94 years of age on September 10, 1999 in Ashton Nursing Home, Ashton, Idaho. She was preceded in death by sisters Zelma Margie Beavers, Mabel Owens and Mary Price Kiser; brothers Clifford Glenn, Malcolm Simpson, Benjamin Frank and Robert L. Owens. Edith is survived by her sister Alma Charlene Hinds, numerous nieces and nephews, as well as stepchildren Carolyn Kosten, Nancy Small and Joe Clow.Graveside services are to be held at 1:00 PM on Monday, September 20, 1999 at Santa Paula Cemetery.Arrangements are under the direction of Pierce Brothers Stetler Mortuary, Santa Paula.Thomas Bradley NeillThomas Bradley Neill, 54, of Santa Paula, passed away September 10, 1999 at his home. He was born June 5, 1945 in Corpus Christi, Texas and was raised in San Diego, CA. He had been a Santa Paula resident for 25 years. He worked in sales at Saticoy Lemon Association in Ventura after many years at the Ventura County Citrus Exchange in Santa Paula.Tom served in the U.S. Army and was a Vietnam Veteran.He was also a graduate of San Diego State University.He is survived by his daughter, Christi Neill, Pacifica, CA; his son Richard Neill, Santa Paula; his parents Jean and Chan Neill, San Diego, CA; his brother Rick Neill of San Diego and his sister Cathy Neill of Poway, CA and her two children Brandin and Shelby Reed.A memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, September 17, 1999 at the Santa Paula First Presbyterian Church, 121 Davis Street, Santa Paula.In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Santa Clara Valley Hospice, P.O. Mr. Kan was born September 4, 1999 in Indonesia. He was a 36 year county resident coming from Holland.He was employed at Limoneira Ranch as a Lab Technologist for 36 years. He enjoyed travel in the U.S. and Europe and loved sports.He is survived by a sister Anita Kan of Holland; niece Caroline Kan of Switzerland; sister-in-law Ruth Kan of Switzerland; numerous cousins in Holland; the families of Barry, Robin, Peter, Ralph, Lewis, and Fernand Coert of Ventura County and Peggy Henry of Glendale.Visitation will be Wednesday from 2 pm - 8 pm and Graveside services will be Thursday, September 16, 1999 at 10:00 a.m. with burial following with the Rev. She was born August 9, 1911 in Savannah County, TN.Mrs. Moore was a former Santa Paula resident for 40 years. Mrs. Moore was the owner of Moore’s Grocery Store in Santa Paula for 10 years.She is survived by son Joe D. Moore of Kingman, AZ; brother L.D. Lutts of Santa Paula; brother Charles Lutts of Santa Paula; and brother Hub Lutts of Atascadero, Ca.; She is also survived by 6 grandchildren, and 2 great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Oscar L. He was born August 26, 1919 in Kulm, N.D.Mr. Samuelson was a retired Captain for Los Angeles Fire Department for 30 years.He is survived by his wife, Helen Samuelson of Santa Paula.Services were held Friday, Sept. 3, 1999 at Pierce Brothers Valley Oaks Chapel. Lois Adell Stegall, age 83, went home to the Lord on Sunday, September 5, 1999, after a lengthy illness. She was born on September 17, 1916, to Emmett and Willie Guess in Wayne, Oklahoma. Lois moved to Santa Paula in 1941 from Purcell, Oklahoma. In 1943, Lois was instrumental in helping start the first Nazarene Church of Santa Paula and was a church member.Lois worked as a cook at Santa Paula Union High School, and retired from those duties in 1955. She enjoyed catering, millinary, cake decorating, serving in her church, helping others, but most of all she enjoyed all things of beauty which God created.Lois is survived by her devoted loving husband Marvin “Bud” Stegall, a son Donald Cardinal and his wife Joan, a daughter Anita Cardinal Blackshear and her husband Boyce of Santa Paula Plumbing. Lois leaves behind six grandchildren: Mike Cardinal and his wife Barbara, Pam and Tim Cardinal, Bernie Blackshear and his wife Cathy, Randy Blackshear and his wife Maria, Kim Bell and her husband Jeff. She also leaves behind 13 great-grandchildren, three brothers: Merle and his wife Pauline, Ernest, and Vernie, and two sisters: Jewel and Jean.Lois will be remembered most by those who knew her as a devoted loving wife, mother, grandmother, and most importantly, as a woman who loved her Lord. Burial followed at Santa Paula Cemetery.Arrangements under the direction of Pierce Brothers Stetler Mortuary, Santa Paula.Bruce BurnsBruce Loren Burns, age 89, passed away August 23, 1999, at Valley View Medical Center. He was born May 8, 1910, in Pleasant Hope, MO. He was born to Edgar and Fay McCoy Burns. He married Zelda Warren on October 30, 1932, in Santa Paula.Bruce graduated from Santa Paula High School and made the varsity football team during his freshmen year. A quote from the El Solano yearbook states, “Bruce Burns fullback-When Bruce hit the line-Zowie! You knew something came that couldn’t be stopped. Bruce has three more years to play. He is a natural born football player. “Among his teammates were Charles Teague, Tom Riley, and Art Lindsay. Bruce went on to become captain of the team.In the late 30’s, Bruce and a partner opened a very popular steak house on Main Street in Santa Paula. In 1942, he sold his interest in the restaurant and the eatery eventually became the Chili Hut. Bruce and his family then moved to Moorpark where he worked for the Ventura Agricultural Department for over 30 years.Bruce loved hunting, fishing and socializing with friends. When you think of him, hold a good thought.Bruce is survived by a daughter, Genevieve F. (Les) Franklin of Cedar City; and a daughter-in-law Betty Y. Burns of Kaneohe, Hawaii; four grandchildren, four great-grandchildren; and a sister Sammy Davis of Long Beach, Ca. He was preceded in death by his wife, Zelda Burns, and a son James W. Burns.Private family services were held Wednesday, August 25, 1999. Interment was held in the Parowen City Cemetery, Utah.
