Overall, the 38 teachers from 13 schools earned honors totaling $15,250 in grant money from 15 business partners for their innovative and cooperative approaches to teaching that encourages students to expand their world perspectives. Since 1993, the program has awarded grants for Ventura County teachers totaling $231,450.

Jennifer Dobbie, a kindergarten and first grade teacher at Thelma Bedell Elementary School, was one of 38 Ventura County teachers honored at the 2009 Impact II teacher recognition dinner on May 13 in Oxnard, sponsored by the Ventura County Office of Education.
Dobbie earned a $500 grant from business partner, the Amgen Foundation, for her lesson plan “Kites and the Quest for World Peace.” Dobbie’s lesson plan poses the question: “Could the act of flying a kite contribute to world peace? Perhaps... in a world of instant gratification and virtual experience, a good old-fashioned kite flight can inspire so much more than merely watching paper float through the air.”Impact II is a National Diffusion Network Program that serves teachers in Ventura County and the local business community. The program is designed to foster teacher/business partnerships that support teacher recognition and curriculum sharing opportunities.
