Underground cable failure affects approximately 2,800 SCE customers

Approximately 2,800 Santa Paula customers were without power Tuesday evening when an underground cable failed, plunging a portion of the city into darkness.

According to Southern California Edison Region Manager Nancy Williams, the August 18 power failure started at about 8:42 p.m. when an underground cable failed in the area of East Harvard Boulevard, west of 11th Street.
“A partial load” of power was restored by 8:47 p.m., and Williams said power was gradually restored to more customers as the source of the failure was isolated. Some customers were without power until 12:27 a.m.The boundaries of the power failure were west of 12th Street, portions of Main Street and south of same, north of the 126 Highway and Santa Maria Street and east of Clow Street, and Peck Road almost to Todd Lane, located in the unincorporated area of the county. The outage also knocked out electrical power to the Santa Paula Times’ computers, according to Editor/Publisher Debbie Johnson.
