Council: State of the City to be presented by Mayor Tovias Tuesday

The State of the City Address by Mayor Jim Tovias as well as the swearing in of new City Manager Jaime Fontes are highlights of Tuesday’s City Council meeting.


The February 16 meeting, delayed one day due to the President’s Day long weekend, will start at 6:30 p.m. 

The meeting will be broadcast live on Time Warner Cable Channel 10 and replayed per schedule.

Mercer-Prieto VFW Post 2043 will present a Color Guard for the flag salute followed by the State of the City Address by Tovias.

The oath of office will be given to new City Manager Jaime Fontes and a proclamation will be presented to Cliff Finley for his leadership as interim city manager. 

Moving on to city business the council will hear an update on the Santa Paula Creek cleanup project and in a separate matter will be asked to approve a Preserve America grant application now available to the city due to its status as a Preserve America City.

The council will also consider another application from the statewide park development and revitalization grant.

The annual audited financial reports for the city and its Redevelopment Agency will also be presented followed by its regular update on how the city’s tight finances are doing.

The Santa Paula Branch Line Bike Trail project - created with grant funds - will be up for council approval on plans on specifications.

The council will also be asked to adopt the Five-Year Capital Improvement Program.

The last council business agenda items will deal with deciding on a task order related to the continuing topographic surveying work related to the cross-town pipeline design and considering the purchase of one wastewater truck.
