In November then club Executive Director Doug Caldwell gave 24-hour notice to families that all clubhouses in Santa Paula and Fillmore would close. The club’s Board of Directors stated the move had been announced without their knowledge and placed Caldwell on administrative leave. Subsequently, Interim Executive Director Sheila Tate announced that although several clubhouses would be closed, Club Kids would still have local locations where they could continue to enjoy club programs and activities.
Hishmeh said the “Beauty of this fundraiser is it’s really simple ... all the customer has to do is order; there’s no need for a special coupon, to show up on a certain day or time. All they have to do is order March 15 to March 31 and donations will be generated automatically,” by the computerized registers.
In addition, Domino’s staff has been instructed to suggest that customers order an extra-large 16-inch pizza to benefit the Boys & Girls Club.
“It will raise awareness of our clubs just by Domino’s staff asking,” if they want to order the upgrade to generate the $1 donation.
“The bright side of what happened in the last few months,” said Hishmeh, “is it has raised awareness of our clubs, the value of what they provide to our kids and the need the club has now.”
