Developing the concept of “Sanctuary” being a safe place, The Presbyterian Church Bible Camp for all ages, 2 through adults, begins Wednesday, September 29 at 5:30 p.m. There is a free supper provided by the church’s Kitchen Ministry Committee, under the direction of Bob and Jean Dyer. Bible Camp begins with music, movement and laughter at 6:10 and games, laughter and Camp Sessions begin at 6:30. Debbie Foster greets children in the nursery; Sheila Riley hosts the Honey Bees for 2-3 year olds; Brian Laird leads the Cubby Bears for those 4-5 years old. Grades 1, 2 and 3 are All Stars for Jesus (primary age), led by Cheryl Nichols and Michelle Smith. Grades 4 and 5 are Junior All Stars for Jesus led by Nancy Berkley and Mary Hammel.Pastor Church Lairds leads the 6th and 8th grades in “Chuck’s Kids,” Jeanette Laird, leads the Senior High School Group. Sandy Leatherman and Amy Buckman lead the Parent-Child group Motheread/Fatheread, an interactive groups where parents of 4 - 7 year old ages interact through the sharing of children’s literature. The group is designed to improve parenting skills and reading skills.Of the 16 groups meeting in the fall, eight are Small Groups and Support Groups, ranging from Making Peace With Your Past led by Vicki Horne, Moving Beyond your Past with Diane Dysart, Search for Significance led by Dolas Tubbs; Christ Centered 12-Step program led by Joyce Joneson and Firelighters led by Vicki Thompson and Dolas Tubbs.A Men’s Group is also available led by Jim Cuzzo and Doug Tubbs. Rod Thompson leads the co-ed Small Group in Upper Ojai on Thursdays at 6:30 p.m. at Summit Drive Inn, with a discussion of Experiencing God.Pat Ogg leads a group called Women to Women on Thursday at 1 p.m.; Jim Cuzzo leads a day time Retired Men’s Group; Cynthia Dunbar will lead a group on Christ Centered health Friday mornings at 8 a.m., learning how to achieve mental and physical balance in our lives. Sue Rawlings leads a Prayer Workshop on Saturday mornings.
Howard Bolton will present a video discussion series, which provide a chance to see God’s enduring faithfulness. It is a 16-week course with a 15-20 minute video followed by discussion. Newcomers Group will also meet on Wednesdays evening.Small Groups will meet in the Church’s Annex building, which is currently being refurbished, under the direction of the Church’s Property Committee. Children’s classes will meet in and near the Fellowship Hall.For day and meeting times of any and all groups, please call the church office at 525-6654.
