Under cloudy skies, 75 Santa Paulans joined in the 24th annual Santa Paula CROP Walk on March 11th. The 10-kilometer walk began and ended at Veterans Park, and walkers brought in pledges of over $12,000. Walkers from eight local churches - First Baptist, St. Sebastian, St. Paul’s Episcopal, El Buen Pastor United Methodist, First United Methodist, First Presbyterian, Seventh Day Adventist and Universalist Unitarian - collected pledges from congregants, co-workers, friends and family. Dorothy Ann Phillips, CROP-walking for the SDA church, raised $4,472 in pledges. A portion of the funds raised - 25% - will remain here in Santa Paula to be used for programs that provide food, clothing and shelter for those in need. Our CROP Walk was one of some 2,000 CROP Walks taking place around the country this year. These interfaith, community events are sponsored by Church World Service, the relief, development and refugee assistance arm of the National Council of the Churches of Christ in the U.S.If you missed pledging a walker, or have questions about CROP (Communities Reaching Out to People), call Ruth Colbath at 525-5647, or Church World Service at (888) 297-2767.
