Arturo Porras Arturo (Art) Porras, age 69, passed away peacefully in his home on April 10, 2001, nestled around his family members, after a valiant bout with cancer.Art was born June 16, 1931 in El Paso, Texas, and was a resident of Ventura County for the last 60 years. He graduated from Santa Paula High School in 1950 and lettered in varsity football and track. After graduating from high school, Art enlisted in the United States Air Force, where he served in the Korean War conflict.Art retired from the Sheet Metal Workers Union after 32 years of service, in which he served as secretary of Treasure. He was a graduate of Ventura College and UCLA, where he received his teacher’s credentials. He taught industrial arts at Ventura College.As a member of Our Lady of Guadalupe Church in Santa Paula, he served faithfully as a religious teacher, Eucharistic minister, and handyman for various church projects. He loved traveling to Manadero, Mexico to help the Sisters of Saint Claire.Art loved to be around his family and especially his grandchildren. He was a dedicated father and loving husband. He always put others before himself.
He leaves behind his wife of 49 years, Alice Luque Porras; sons Arthur R. Porras and wife Elizabeth, and Michael A. Porras and wife Donna; and daughters, Laura L. Porras, and Elizabeth M. Murillo and husband Jerry. He leaves seven grandchildren; brothers, Profilio, Artemio, Henry and Richard; sisters, Mary Antunez, Velia Newport and Patsy Whiteside; and many nephews and nieces and friends who will miss him.The family would like to thank all the friends and family who have supported us during this difficult time. A special thank you to Dr. Jeffrey Tubbs, and the angels from Hospice.Our most special thanks to our Lord and Mother Mary for being there with us always, especially with our loving husband and father.Visitation will be Monday, April 16 from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. at Pierce Brothers Stetler Chapel. Rosary will also be on Monday, April 16, at 7 p.m. at Our Lady of Guadalupe Church in Santa Paula. Arrangements are under the direction of Pierce Brothers Stetler Mortuary, Santa Paula.
