Local teams that participated were the Oxnard “Rebels”, Carpinteria, Goleta, Conejo, Santa Barbara “Blazers”, Santa Maria “Swoosh”, Oxnard “Aztecs” Santa Barbara “805” and the Santa Paula “Red Storm”.Games were intense and the players gave it all they had on Friday and Saturday to qualify for the championship games on Sunday. In the 6th grade division the championship was earned by Conejo who were undefeated, with second place going to Carpinteria with the “Red Storm” winning the third place game over Santa Barbara. In the 7th grade semifinal game the “Red Storm” was turned away with a heartbreaking loss to the Oxnard “Rebels” placing third by defeating Goleta. In the championship game the Santa Maria “Swoosh” gave the Oxnard “Rebels” a fight for the championship, but with a tie score and 2 seconds left on the clock, the “Swoosh” fouled a player. The “Rebel” sank one out of two and were up by one point. With 1 second on the clock, the ball was thrown across the court in a last effort, but the “Swoosh” would have to be content with second place.
