SPHS Theater Team presents "Dolls"
May 02, 2001
Santa Paula High School
The Santa Paula High School Theater Team stands ready and willing to present the best possible theatrical experience this weekend with their spring production of “Dolls.” Presented at SPHS 10 years ago with great success, this show appropriately deals with the inadvisability of teen sex and of teens having children.
“Dolls” is a hugely popular and widely presented teen show among American high schools. Presenting it again is timely, for the U.S. currently has the highest rate of teen pregnancy among the world’s industrialized countries. Our Theater Team members felt that locally we need to once again address the issue. The complexities of teens having children and trying to raise them are explored in a series of vignettes or teen stories, each with its own moral, each interspersed with comedy which exposes myths and subtly educates. The author’s recurring theme in this powerful play is “A kid having a kid doesn’t do either kid any good,” and the inherent message of this drama-comedy is that abstinence is the very, very best route for any teen to follow.
