Homer Thompson

Homer Thompson quietly left his family on May 12, surrounded by his wife, Lois of 68 years, his children and grandchildren.

A tenacious man born August 23, 1916 in Randolph, Texas to farmers John and Martha Thompson, Homer migrated to the Ventura County area with his beloved wife during World War II. Homer spent 80 years working in agriculture, the last several decades in the Heritage and Santa Rosa Valleys specializing in avocados, citrus, and nuts.

The father of five, he was a stout family man with an incredible work ethic and a mischievous sense of humor. The family story teller and prankster, Homer loved to share his life’s adventures and special produce with all - from family to friends. A connoisseur of the gourmet, Homer loved tomatoes, cheese and crackers and Tabasco sauce. He will be fondly remembered for his wit, his resoluteness, and his love for his family.

For the last 34 years Homer and Lois have resided in Santa Paula, nurturing their flourishing family. Preceded in death by his daughter Vickie Wagoner of Washington, he is survived by his son, Ken (LaNell) Thompson of Ventura, and three daughters, Donna (Bill) Murphy of Port Hueneme, Pam (Steve) Goyeneche of Ventura, and Tricia (Bill) Peters of Camarillo; his grandchildren, Katie Ward, Paul Thompson, Jennifer Walker, Sandy Thornton, Melanie Murphy, Tony Pena, Jenelle Pena, Dianne Zoll, Joe Goyeneche, and Amy Thompson; 10 great-grandchildren and two great-great grandchildren.

The family would like to extend a very special gratitude to Maria Magana in her unwavering dedication and passion in caring for Homer for the last few years, and a special thanks to Dr. Schrock and Barbara and all of the caring staff of Santa Paula Hospital. Homer is in the care of Skillin Carroll Mortuary, and a graveside service will be held Wednesday, May 18th at 2 p.m. at Santa Paula Cemetery, with interment immediately following.
