The Cardinal varsity got the first points on the scoreboard Friday against Pacifica, with Moises Salgado kicking a field goal about four minutes into the game.

The Tritons went on to win the contest, 64-39.  This was the second week in a row that Pacifica scored 60 or more points in a game.

The Cardinals controlled the ball for much of the game, but a tough Pacifica defense held them from scoring.  The Cardinal’s first touchdown came near the end of the first quarter on a pass from quarterback Christian Garcia to Daniel Kohr.

The second quarter started off with a Pacifica fumble that Santa Paula recovered on their six-yard line.  A pass play a minute later was intercepted for a Tritons TD.  The Cards scored again as the quarter drew to an end on a rush by Kameron Klien.  Pacifica scored two more times in he second quarter, going into the half with a 28-17 lead.

In the third quarter the Cardinals scored twice to three TDs by Pacifica.  Klien scored one touchdown.  The other came off a catch by Steven Kohr.

In the fourth quarter the Santa Paula offense got two more TDs but they were matched by Pacifica.

The varsity plays Bishop Diego Friday at 7:30 p.m. in another home game to be played at Ventura College.

A Cardinal cheerleader fell and was injured during the game, but she is doing well after suffering a concussion.
