Rotary Club hands out dictionaries to 3rd graders

Santa Paula News

The Rotary Club of Santa Paula has provided dictionaries to 346 third grade students in the Santa Paula Elementary School District.  It’s part of a nationwide project called, “Books to Keep.”

First implemented in 1995, the program has helped to provide more than 14 million children with dictionaries all over the United States. The goal of this program is to assist all students in becoming good writers, active readers, creative thinkers, and resourceful learners by providing them with their own personal dictionary.

The dictionaries are a gift to each student to use at school and at home for years to come.  The Rotary used money from the annual Faulkner Farm Pumpkin Patch to purchase the books. SPESD Superintendent Dr. F. Paul Chounet said, “The district is grateful to Rotary for providing the dictionaries.”
