Judge Edward F. Brodie retired on November 30, 2011, after more than 19 years on the bench.

During his career, he presided over a wide variety of criminal assignments, including felony and misdemeanor trials, arraignments, early disposition conferences and sentencings.

Judge Brodie was elected to the municipal court bench in June 1992.  He received a special interim appointment by Governor Pete Wilson and began his term of office four months early. He was elevated to the superior court by unification in June 1998.

Prior to his election to the bench, Judge Brodie was an attorney in the Ventura County District Attorney’s Office from 1984 to 1992, rising to supervisor of misdemeanor operations. From 1981 to 1982 he was a deputy public defender for the Ventura County Public Defender’s Office, followed by one year with the law firm Taylor, McCord and Johnson. He served almost 15 years in law enforcement before becoming an attorney, including over 12 years with the California Highway Patrol and two years in the U.S. Army Military Police Corps.

Presiding Judge Vincent O’Neill commented, “Judge Brodie was a hard-working bench officer who handled all types of criminal matters with skill and prudence. The court will miss his contributions, but we wish him well in his well-earned retirement.”
