SPHS senior Taylor Alvarado playing in U-17 World Cup
Taylor Alvarado, a senior at Santa Paula High School, is playing with the Mexican Women’s Under-17 soccer team in World Cup competition.
She’ll be playing with her team in Azerbaijan September 22 through October 13. In May she represented Mexico in the World Cup qualifying matches in Guatemala City. She was recognized by the local media as one of the top players in the tournament. The Mexican team placed third behind the USA and Canada and earned the final ticket to the World Cup.
She recently traveled with her team to Holland to participate in three preparation matches. Mexico has been placed in a very difficult group with Japan, Brazil and New Zealand. They’ll play New Zealand September 23, Brazil on September 26 and Japan on September 30.
Taylor has been successful in both club and high school soccer over the past three years. She has been one of the most recruited players by top universities and last week she committed to Pepperdine University.
