The logo competition for the new Santa Paula Unified School Board is over and the top three winners were announced at Thursday’s board meeting.
There were 87 entries in the contest. That number was paired down to the top nine and the board selected the final three. There was a tie for first place. Flavio Ramos, Jr. and Emily Rocksvold each received a check for $150. Selina Rico took second place, wining $100. The three renderings will be used as inspiration by a graphic designer for the final logo. He will bring back three samples to the board prior to their June 20 meeting.
The goal is to have the final drawing ready by July 1.
In another matter trustees heard the tentative calendar for the 2013-14 school year. As of now teachers will return August 12 and classes will start at all schools on August 14. Winter break is set for December 23 to January 3, Spring break from March 24 to April 4 and the school year will end June 11.
The calendar is subject to acceptance by the unions and final approval by the board.
