A Santa Paula man was arrested Thursday afternoon for suspicion of driving under the influence after his pickup truck slammed into the Santa Paula Unified School District offices on East Santa Barbara Street.

Santa Paula Police Sgt. Ken Clark said the collision occurred February 27 at about 4:26 p.m. when the SPPD was notified that a vehicle had gone into a building in the 500 block of East Santa Barbara Street near the 5th Street intersection.

“It appears,” said Clark, “the driver was DUI,” which led to his white pickup truck striking the historic building.

The driver, Francisco Peralta, 25 of Santa Paula, was alone in the vehicle at the time it struck the building; he was not injured.

Clark said there was “no structural damage to the building,” although there was minor intrusion from the truck’s bumper at the point of impact as well as cosmetic damage. The pickup truck was also damaged in the collision.

Peralta was transported to Santa Paula Hospital for a test to determine his blood alcohol and was arrested for suspicion of driving under the influence.

According to Clark the incident is under investigation.
