Edward J. Curran Edward J. Curran, 85, a long time resident of Santa Paula, passed away December 5, 2001 at home with his family at his side.Mr. Curran was born in San Francisco December 20, 1915 and met his wife Josephine while they both attended UC Berkeley. After college he started his Navy career, serving in the South Pacific during World War II. He retired as a captain from the Naval Reserve in 1975.After active duty in the military, Ed settled in Santa Paula and later became manager of Fruit Growers Laboratory, where he retired after 30 years. During his career he was active in the Santa Paula Chamber of Commerce, Catholic Charities, Ventura County Farm Bureau, and numerous other county organizations. He and his wife of 60 years, Josephine, enjoyed retirement, traveling extensively around the United States in their motorhome.He was a past president of the Santa Paula Rotary Club and charter member of Knights of Columbus, Council #3608 in Santa Paula. Mr. Curran was a member of St. Sebastian Catholic Church, and took an active part in establishing St. Sebastian School in 1950.He was preceded in death by his son and daughter-in-law, Edward III and Karen Curran, who died in 1975. He is survived by his wife, Josephine of Santa Paula; sons, Bill (wife Amy) Curran of Long Beach, and George (wife Mary) of Hampton, Virginia; daughters, Margaret (husband Charlie) Booker of Ventura, Barbara (husband Gilbert) Lovio of Santa Paula, JoAnne (husband Robert) Turnbull of Diamond Bar, and Cathy (husband Dr. Robert) Beilin of Ventura; 19 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
Memorial Mass was celebrated December 11 at St. Sebastian Church in Santa Paula, with Msgr. Edmund Renehan officiating. Interment was at Santa Paula Cemetery.In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Santa Paula Memorial Hospital.“May the roads rise with you, and the wind be always at your back; and may the Lord hold you in the hollow of his hand.” - Gaelic Blessing
