“I’ve never heard of Big Lots, Odd Lots or Mac Frugal’s,” said a Santa Paula Pic ‘N’ Save shopper, Melinda Lopez. “All I know is Pic ‘N’ Save. . .I guess the name change won’t make much of a difference, but I like Pic ‘N’ Save better than Large Lots. . .I mean Big Lots.”Whatever the name, Consolidated Stores will continue to sell its heavily discounted merchandise at prices 20 to 40 percent cheaper than Wal-Mart or Target and even up to 70 percent below prices charged in traditional stores.Like Pic ‘N’ Save, Mac Frugal’s does have stores in California and Texas, but the Big Lots and Odd Lots stores are primarily located on the East Coast; there are 1,300 retail outlets under Consolidated Stores ownership in 46 states.Along with the new name, Pic ‘N’ Save stores will get lots of big improvements with wider aisles, brighter lighting and an added emphasis on customer service.California is the last holdout in converting Pic ‘N’ Save stores to Big Lots and the process is expected to be completed by the fall.

Everyone seems to love picking and saving at Pic ‘N’ Save, but will they get the same feeling from Big Lots?
There are lots of big changes coming for the 170 Pic ‘N’ Save closeout retail stores throughout Texas and California, including the Santa Paula location in the Vons retail center; a name change that seems to lack the panache of picking and saving but rather notes the chain’s policy of buying, and reselling, big lots of stuff.

Such confusion seems to be nonexistent in Santa Paula.
