In 1953 Bruce joined the U.S. Navy and worked as an electrical lineman and laid electric lines in Adak and Dutch Harbor, Alaska for a year. He also served at Subic Bay, Luzon, Philippines with the dynamite crew and as a lineman.In 1955 Bruce got out of the Navy and worked as an electrician at the Marine Base in Mojave. He then worked in testing at Rocketdyne, Santa Susana Pass and the Atomic Plant with North American Aviation. In 1962, he worked at Vandenberg Air Force Base on the Titan II missile sites. He also worked on the steam plant at Mandalay and Ormand Beaches. From 1965-1970 he worked for Delta Electric Co., and from 1970-1974 for the Bechtel Corporation. 1982 found Bruce at the Vandenberg shuttle site, and then on to the Diablo Canyon power plant. He also worked on the Target store and the Simi Valley Courthouse. He has pretty much worked all over the area on electrical projects.In 1948 Bruce married his high school sweetheart, Norma Ross, a marriage which lasted for five years but ended in divorce. In 1956 he married Betty Phillips and they had a son, Jeffrey, Class of 1978, who has given them two grandchildren, Cody and Brandy. Betty passed away in 1994 after a long battle with cancer while Bruce cared for her.Now Bruce is retired and is enjoying traveling with his good friend Jane Rutherford. They have visited the Mississippi River, Mexico, Alaska and the Caribbean. Where next? They just returned from Laughlin, Nevada.

The first son of Jess and Veva Allee, Bruce graduated from SPUHS with the class of 1947. His brother Wayne graduated in 1950. Coincidentally, Bruce and Wayne share the same birthday and have many similarities.

His brother Wayne graduated in 1950. Coincidentally, Bruce and Wayne share the same birthday and have many similarities.Bruce was a member of Randall Bryden’s gymnastic team, specializing in the long horse and floor exercise. He was also a member of the football team for three years and a member of the Letterman’s Club all four years. His pals at high school were Bob Lindsey and Paul Nevison of the Class of 1947, and Reggie Thrasher and Voyd Milam of the Class of 1946. His favorite teachers, in addition to Bryden, were Mildred Flickinger and Helen Hardison.Following graduation Bruce worked as a roughneck for Associated Oil Company, and then went to work for Harold Matthews at Santa Paula Electric as an apprentice electrician. During this time he attended night school at Ventura Junior College through the union to become a journeyman electrician.
