Santa Paula 56, Oak Park 45Santa Paula opened their regular season with a 56-45 win over hosting Oak Park on Monday.The team held the Oak Park Eagles to five points in the first quarter to take their permanent game lead.Sarah Kolbeck led the scoring with 18, 6 rebounds, three steals, two assists, followed by Carla Berumen with 10 points, three rebounds, one blocked shot, two steals, five assists. Rachael Kolbeck added 8 points, six rebounds, two blocked shots, one assists, Francelia Lucero scored 7 with five steals, three assists,April Bolanos, 4; Jessieka Mata 4, with two rebounds, four steals, two assists; Sarah Ruiz 4, Sonja Aguiar 2, Candace Alonzo 1.``The team played excellent defense,'' said Coach Emily Stenzel. ``We are still coming together on offense, but they played with good teamwork.''Santa Paula 57,
St. Bonaventure 36Santa Paula beat visiting St. Bonaventure 57-36 on Tuesday.This was a big win for Santa Paula because the team has not beaten the Lady Seraphs in more than two years.Sarah Kolbeck led the scoring with 27 points, 15 rebounds, six steals, and one assist; Sarah Ruiz added 14 more along with five rebounds, one assist, and one steal; Carla Berumen scored 8, with three rebounds, three assists two steals, two blocked shots; Jessieka Mata scored two, with seven rebounds, three assists, two steals; Francelia Lucero scored two points, three rebounds, four steals. Although Claudia Berumen scored no points she had six rebounds, one assist, three steals.``The Santa Paula defense was impeccable holding St. Bonaventure to three points in the second quarter,'' said Coach Stenzel. ``The defensive stats show how hard the girls worked with 60 rebounds, and 20 steals. Every person contributed to the win.''
