Bessie Elizabeth Wiech Bessie Elizabeth Wiech, 90, was called home into the loving arms of her Lord on November 24, 2003.Bessie was born July 14, 1913 in Attica Ohio to John and Effie Billard. She lived in Ohio until 1973 when, with her husband, she moved to Ventura, CA. In 1976 she moved to Santa Paula, where she remained until her death.Before going to work as a baker for the Elyria Ohio School District, where she worked for 15 years, she was a foster mother to 20 children in need of a temporary home.She is survived by her daughter, Carol Wiech of Santa Paula; son-in-law Ray Reimer of Ventura; four grandchildren, Sharon Dearman of Oxnard, Don Reimer of Eullis, Texas, Patricia Kramer (Michael) of Fort Bragg, CA, and Kathy Velasquez (David) of Oxnard; 10 great-grandchildren; 11 great-great-grandchildren; and foster sister Donna Lou Garthe of North Rideville, Ohio.She was preceded in death by her husband of 56 years, Walter, daughter Ruth Reimer, grandson Terry Reimer, and eight brothers and sisters.Bessie loved to sew and crochet. Over the last 16 years she made lap robes, which she distributed throughout the convalescent hospitals in Ventura county.She loved her family and took pride in each and every one. She also found great comfort in her love of the Lord, and continued reading her Bible right up until her last days.Our family would like to say a special thank you to Dr. Gary Deutsch and the staff of Santa Paula Healthcare for the care she was given.A celebration of her life was held December 2 with the Rev. Terry Cox officiating. Interment followed at Santa Paula Cemetery.Arrangements are under the direction of Pierce Brothers Stetler Mortuary, 128 S. 8th St., Santa Paula, 525-5595.Lawanna “Sue” Stockton TharpLawanna “Sue” Stockton Tharp, 67, of Santa Paula, passed away on Thursday, November 27, 2003 at Community Memorial Hospital after a brief illness.Sue was born August 28, 1936 in Ringling, Oklahoma. She was a 50-year Ventura County resident, having moved here from Sherman, Texas. Sue had been employed by American Greeting Cards as a salesperson for the last year.I Said A Prayer For You TodayI said a prayer for you todayAnd know God must have hear,I felt the answer in my heartAlthough He spoke no word.I didn’t ask for wealth or fame,I knew you wouldn’t mind.
I asked Him to send treasuresOf a far more lasting kind.I asked that He’d be near youAt the start of each new day,To grant you health and blessingsAnd friends to share your way.I asked for happiness for youIn all things great and small,But it was for His loving careI prayed the most of all.Sue is survived by daughters Sheryl Key and Teresa Norris of Sherman, Texas; sons Jim Pickering of Waldron, Indiana and Joe Pickering of Calhoun, Georgia; eight grandchildren; one great-grandchild; and sister Lovella Wolfe of Morgan Hill, CA.Visitation will be held on Wednesday, December 3 from 5 to 8 p.m. at Pierce Brothers Stetler Mortuary. Funeral services will be on Thursday, December 4 at 11 a.m. at First Primitive Baptist Church, 307 Ventura St., Santa Paula, with Elder Charles Clark officiating.
