The students received guidance in exhibit design from SPCOM Curator John Nichols of the Sespe Group.Candies of the 1950s, Popular Music (yes Virginia, there was some popular 50s music) and Records, Mexican Stars, Teenage Hangouts (hey, how about that Bob’s Big Boy?), Sports, Movies and much more are featured in the students’ exhibit. The exhibit is sure to entertain and educate all visitors about this fascinating decade, perhaps better known for its fads than just about anything else. This exhibit continues through February 22, 2004.
The Santa Paula Historical Society’s current exhibit, “Hot Wheels: The 35th Anniversary Exhibit” is being guest curated by Brian Hernandez of BMH Hobbies in Santa Paula. Brian has assembled an impressive group of Hot Wheels from several local collections. This year Mattel celebrated the 35th anniversary of Hot Wheels cars. More than 2-billion Hot Wheels cars have been produced since 1968, more than Detroit’s “Big Three” have manufactured combined. This exhibit will honor not only the local collectors who generously provided loans from their collections but also the spectacular moments in Hot Wheels history that reflect the power, speed and performance for which Hot Wheels cars are known.“This exhibit will appeal to the kid in all of us because it combines the fantasy of the 1:64-scale cars with the sheer ‘Wow!’ factor of seeing some of the coolest cars in the world, in any scale, brought to life,” said Nichols. This exhibit continues through March 23, 2004.Located at 1001 E. Main Street, the museum is open Wednesdays through Sundays from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Admission is $2 for adults and $1 for children.
