Lady Cards meet up with the Flashes of Fillmore

It was a match-up of equals Tuesday when the Lady Cardinal soccer teams hosted the Fillmore Flashes. In the varsity match, the Lady Cards jumped to an early lead 15 minutes into the match on a solid goal by Joanna Baez, a freshman. Santa Paula came up with more scoring opportunities, but the Flashes equalized in the 35th minute on one of their few shots at the goal.Ten minutes into the second half the Cardinals took the lead again on a goal from Christine Buenrostro, a junior with an assist by Raquel Gonzalez, a senior. The Cards created many quality opportunities, but could not find the back of the net to extend their lead. This would come back to haunt them as Fillmore tied up the game and the match finished 2-2.The fast pace and aggressive game took its toll on both teams, with at least four players on each side having to leave the game with leg cramps. Fillmore and Santa Paula go at it again December 19 at Fillmore.
