By Peggy KellySanta Paula TimesThe City of Santa Paula has changed banks after the City Council approved the move of millions of dollars of city business to Santa Barbara Bank & Trust at the Dec. 15th meeting.“Changing banking services, while a small matter, has large implications on how we do business,” said City Manager Wally Bobkiewicz.Finance Director Tina Rivera said “invitations were sent to all local banks with branches in Santa Paula” for their proposals to serve the city’s banking needs.Respondents were interviewed – the panel included Bobkiewicz and Rivera – and the “committee unanimously voted for Santa Barbara Bank & Trust. The bank was not only very competitive in their pricing, the monthly savings potential is about 35 percent, but the interviewing committee felt they could provide the best service.”
According to Rivera’s report, the city also received proposals from Union Bank of California and Wells Fargo Bank as well as Santa Clara Valley Bank, the latter which “courteously responded with a letter stating their current inability to provide the banking services it requires. The city’s current bank also responded stating that they were currently offering the best deal they could make to the city and would therefore not submit a formal proposal.”According to city records, the city’s banking business has been with the Bank of America.Union Bank of California and Santa Barbara Bank & Trust “both offered significant savings,” but based on the interviews and “demonstrated community involvement, staff concluded that Santa Barbara Bank & Trust would potentially offer superior service to the city.”“We’re looking forward to a prosperous relationship,” Santa Barbara Bank & Trust Vice President Don Tello of Fillmore told the City Council.
