Girls spear the Tritons on the soccer field

The Lady Cardinal varsity soccer team blasted past the Pacifica High Tritons Tuesday, 7-1. Pacifica caught the Cards off guard, scoring their first and only goal in the second minute of play.Santa Paula answered with seven unanswered goals. Raquel Gonzalez, Biana Magdaleno and Christine Buenrostro each scored two goals. The seventh goal came from Becky Ayala on an assist by Magdaleno. This was Ayala’s first varsity goal. Greta Strautman earned two assists on the day.The JV girls didn’t fare as well, losing to the Tritons, 3-0.Pacifica led at the half 2-0 and added their final goal mid way through the second half.
Rene Sepulveda registered six saves in the game. “The Tritons played disciplined soccer today and we didn’t play our ‘A’ game,” said Coach Michael Gonzalez. “Our girls gained back their form in the second half and created a few quality scoring opportunities. As a coach you like to see that kind of recovery.”
