Dorothy R. Glenn
Dorothy R. Glenn of Fillmore passed away peacefully to heaven on January 17, 2004 after a brief illness.Dorothy was born on June 8, 1917 in Tulare, California to Rueben and Blanche (English) Root. The family moved to Delano when she was 6 months old. Thirteen years later the family moved to Fresno, where Dorothy graduated from Fresno High School in 1936. She attended Fresno State College.In 1938 she worked for the Fresno City Schools Library for five years. In 1943 she married Kenneth Kern Glenn. They lived in Delano for four years, then moved to Fillmore in 1948 when Kenneth accepted a job with Rancho Sespe. They lived on the ranch until retirement in 1978, then moved into Fillmore.Dorothy was a homemaker for over 60 years. She was a member of the Fillmore First Presbyterian Church, Fillmore Bible Church, and most recently the Faith Community Church; past president of the Fillmore Ebell Club several times; a 65-year member of the Ventura-Fillmore Easter Star; and a recent member of the Red Hat Society.Dorothy enjoyed spending time with her family and friends. She also enjoyed knitting, bingo, playing cards, and trips to Las Vegas and Laughlin.Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents, and infant son Gordon Wilbur Glenn.Dorothy is survived by her loving husband of 60 years, Kenneth; daughter and son-in-law, Eleanore and Mark Hanson of Santa Paula; son and daughter-in-law, Bailey and Sherrie Glenn of Fillmore; grandsons, Brian Hanson of Mammoth Lakes, Mike Hanson of Santa Paula and Matthew Glenn of Virginia Beach, Virginia; sister Eleanore Dann of Fresno; niece, Donna Spell of Irvine; and nephews, Lewis Dann of Fresno and Bill Dann of Irvine.I’m FreeDon’t grieve for me, for now I’m freeI’m following the path God laid for me.I took his hand when I heard him callI turned my back and left it all.I could not stay another dayTo laugh, to love, to work or play,Tasks left undone must stay that way.I found that place at the close of day.If my parting had left a void,Then fill it with remembered joy.
